Finding Motivation for Skincare-Tips

Finding Motivation for Skincare-Tips

Taking care of your skin can be a time-consuming, tedious, hectic, messy process- when you have the wrong skincare routine. So, how do you find the motivation?

Ask yourself these questions and then explore the tips below:

  1. Avoid trending care routines as much as possible! Half the people actually promoting these skincare routines do not even religiously practice them, so why do you stress about it, if they don't? There will be a new one tomorrow, so trying to stay up to date with the latest routine is utterly pointless, virtually impossible, and likely skin-damaging.
  2. Know how much time you're willing to spend on your skin in the morning. Do you really have time every morning before your day really gets started (work, taking kids to school, etc.) to do a multi-step routine, or are you having to wake up much earlier to do it? Losing sleep hours does not contribute to healthy skin, in fact-it takes away from it.
  3. Know how much time you're willing to spend on your skin at night. Do you give up time you'd rather be spending with your family or friends? Do you go to bed much later than you should after work? Are you sitting in bed wearing a face mask for 15 minutes when all you want is to lay down and sleep? Is your routine interfering with romance, contributing to it, or not affecting it at all?
  4. Are you even interested in the products you have? When you look at the skin care tubes, jars, and bottles on your vanity, bathroom counter, or wherever you keep them, do they make you feel exhausted or excited? Does the very idea of putting them on make you tired? If so, this leads to skipped skincare days and inconsistency which results in less effective results.
  5. What kind of products draw your attention and make you feel happy when you're scrolling down the skincare aisles? Brown bottles, clear bottles, jars, colorful details, pink or gold plastic tubes, or elegant designed, clear bottle flora in oil luxury-style designs?
  6. Know your skin type. Do you know whether your skin is oily, combination, normal, dry, etc.? Are you aware of which ingredients work for you, or are you purchasing based off of advertisement alone? This can also be a cause for frustration, lack of skin improvement, and reduced motivation.

Tips to Help You:

  1.  Great skin care experiences happen more often when you're doing it for the right reasons. Make sure you're not performing skincare because of what someone else said, did, what worked for them, or what everyone else is doing. You'll end up overwhelming your mind and your skin just trying to keep up. Your skincare journey is about you. Not her.
  2. Find a multi-purpose product that contains the ingredients that work for you- in a container that attracts your attention and makes you feel happy and pampered when you look at it. This way you can avoid a bunch of extra steps; while feeling inspired every time you use your products. If you look at your skincare product and feel disheartened at the thought of using it, that could be part of the problem.
  3. Make sure your skincare fits you and your schedule. Try a product that's easy to use on-the-go as an added benefit. Something that fits in your purse, diaper bag, or travel bag, that you can easily apply in the bathroom or your office at work if you're running behind schedule. For example, multi-purpose products that only have to be applied to a clean, damp face and massaged into the skin may be an ideal alternative. Skincare should not make you want to give up. It should inspire you to be consistent.
